Magnavox DVD player troubleshooting

After the counters of electronics stores were flooded with DVD players, these excellent apparatuses also appeared on a table of repairs. How practice shows, there are similar malfunctions of DVD players in a basic mass. All malfunctions of the type of “No disk” or “Error”, random hangs-up during reproduction, etc. are specified below in our troubleshooting table with faults` codes for Magnavox DVD players.

(See NTSC/PAL CONVERSION) If the picture becomes distorted after switching between PAL and NTSC, please set the SMART PICTURE to STANDARD.
No sound or distorted soundAdjust the volume.
Check that the speakers are connected correctly.
No audio at digital outputCheck the digital connections.
Check if your receiver can decode MPEG-2 or DTS and if not please make sure the digital output is set to PCM.
Check if the audio format of the selected audio language matches your receiver capabilities.
Disc can’t be playedThe DVD+R/DVD+RW/CD-R must be finalized.
Ensure the disc label is facing up.
Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.
If you record a Picture CD or MP3 CD yourself, ensure that your disc contains at least 10 pictures or 5 MP3 tracks.
No return to start-up screen when disc is removedReset the unit by switching the player off. then on again.
The player does not respond to the remote controlAim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the player
Reduce the distance to the player
Replace the batteries in the remote control.
Insert the batteries with their polarities (+/- signs) as indicated.

The buttons on this player do not work.• Disconnect this player from the power supply for a few minutes, and then reconnect.
No picture.• Make sure that the TV is switched to the correct source input for this player.
• For the composite connection (via the VIDEO connector) to the TV, on this player select a video resolution of 480i/576i or 480p/576p under [HDMI Video] to enable video output.
No picture on HDMI connection.• Make sure that the HDMI cable is not faulty. If it is faulty, replace with a new HDMI cable.
• On the remote control, press and then press “731” (numeric buttons) to recover picture display. Or wait for 10 seconds for auto recovery.
• If this player is connected to an unauthorized display device with an HDMI cable, the audio and video signals may not be output.
The disc does not play high-definition video.• Make sure that the disc contains high definition video.
• Make sure that the TV supports high definition video.
No audio output from the TV.• Make sure that the audio cables are connected to the audio input of the TV.
• Make sure that the TV is switched to the correct source input for this player.
No audio output from the loudspeakers of the external audio device (home theater or amplifier).• Make sure that the audio cables are connected to the audio input of the audio device.
• Switch the external audio device to the correct audio source input.
No sound on HDMI connection.• You may not hear any sound from the HDMI output if the connected device is non-HDCP compliant or only DVI compatible.
No secondary audio output for picture-in picture feature.• When [Bitstream] under the [HDMI Audio] or [Digital Audio] menu is selected, interactive sound like secondary sound for picture-in-picture feature is muted. Deselect [Bitstream].
Cannot play a disc.• Clean the disc.
• Make sure that the disc is correctly loaded.
• Make sure that this player supports the disc. See “Specifications”.
• Make sure that this player supports the region code of the DVD or BD.
• For DVD±RW or DVD±R, make sure that the disc is finalized.
Cannot play DivX video files.• Make sure that the DivX video file is complete.
• Make sure that the video file name extension is correct.
• To play DivX DRM protected files from a USB storage device, connect this player to a TV through HDMI.
DivX subtitles do not display correctly.• Make sure that the subtitle file has the same name as the DivX video file.
• Make sure that the subtitle file has an extension name supported by this player (.srt, .sub, .txt, .ssa, or .smi).
Cannot read the contents of a connected USB storage.• Make sure that the format of the USB storage device is compatible with this player.
• Make sure that the file system on the USB storage device is supported by this player.
• For a USB HDD (a portable hard disc drive), an external power source may be needed.
‘No entry’ or ‘x’ sign is displayed on the TV.• The operation is not possible.
EasyLink feature does not work.• Make sure that this player is connected to the Philips brand EasyLink TV, and the EasyLink option is turned on (see “Use your Blu-ray disc/ DVD player” > “Use Philips EasyLink”).
Cannot access BD-Live features.• Make sure that this player is connected to the network (see “Use your Blu-ray disc/DVD player” > “Set up a network”).
• Make sure that the network installation is made (see “Use your Blu-ray disc/ DVD player” > “Set up a network”).
• Make sure that the Blu-ray disc supports BD-Live features.
• Clear memory storage (see “Change settings” > “Advanced options (BD-Live security, clear memory...)”)
Wireless network is not found or distorted.• Make sure that the network is correctly connected (see “Use your Blu-ray disc/DVD player” > “Set up a network”).
• Make sure that the network installation is made (see “Use your Blu-ray disc/ DVD player” > “Set up a network”).
• Make sure that the wireless network is not disturbed by microwave ovens, DECT phones, or other neighboring Wi-Fi devices.
• If the wireless network does not work properly, try a wired network installation (see “Use your Blu-ray disc/ DVD player” >“Set up a network”).
Browse PC works slowly.• Look in your wireless router’s user manual for information on indoor range, transfer rate, and other factors of signal quality.
• You need a high speed Internet connection for your router.

Completely distorted picture or black/white picture with DVD-Connect this unit directly to the TV.
-Make sure the disc is compatible with the unit.

No DTS audio is output.-This unit does not support DTS audio. This is not a malfunction.
Picture freezes momentarily during playback.-Check the disc for fingerprints/dirty and clean with a soft cloth wiping from center to edge.
-Clean the disc.
Disc cannot be played back.-Insure the disc is inserted in correct direction.
-Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.
-Cancel the parental lock or change the control level.
-Insert a correct disc that plays back on this unit.
-Handle a disc with special care so that it does not have fingerprints, scratches, or dusts on its surface
No return to start-up screen when disc is removed.-Reset the unit by switching off the unit, then on again.
The unit does not respond to the remote control.-Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front panel.
-Reduce the distance to the unit.
-Replace the batteries in the remote control.
-Re-insert the batteries with their polarities (+/- signs) as indicated.
-Tune your radio to an empty AM station so that you hear a lot of noises. Then, turn up the volume. If you hear some signal sound from the radio by pressing buttons on the remote control, the remote control is working.
-Press and hold any button on remote control toward a digital camera. The remote control is working if you confirm infrared light through the digital camera.
Buttons do not work or the unit stops responding.-To completely reset the unit, unplug the AC cord from the AC outlet for 5-10 seconds.
The unit does not respond to some operating commands during playback.-Operations may not be permitted by the disc. Refer to the instructions of the disc.
The unit cannot read CD / DVD.-Use a commonly available cleaning CD / DVD to clean the lens before sending the unit for repair.
Angle does not switch.-The angle cannot be switched for DVD which do not contain multiple angles. In some cases multiple angles are only recorded for specific scenes.
Playback does not start when the title is selected.-Check the "PARENTAL" setting.
The password for rating level has been forgotten.-Enter the default password "4737", then your forgotten password will be cleared.
