Hotpoint oven troubleshooting

Ovens confidently occupied a place of honor in our kitchens. They save time for food warming, time for washing of dishes, because one can warm food on a plate. Repairs and maintenance service of a oven are an integral part of life of any technical and electric appliance. The troubleshooting table with error codes for hotpoint ovens below contributes to the revelation of the most often found malfunctions and defects.

ProblemCheck
Slight odour or small amount of smoke when grill/oven used for first timeThis is normal and should cease after a short period.
Nothing worksIf you find that the timer display is blank, then it is likely that there is no electricity supply to
your oven. Check:
1.   That the main cooker wall is switched on
2.   Other appliances, to see if you have had a power cut
3.   The main circuit breaker for the property
Timer Display shows 'ODD' with "Auto" FlashingThe power supply to your oven has possibly been interrupted, but has now come back on again. Reset the timer to the correct day and "Manual" operation using the instructions given in the timer section of the book.
Main oven and Top ovens do not work, but the grill worksYour timer may be set for an Auto Cooking programme: Check the timer to see whether 'Auto' is lit or flashing. If it is then please follow the instructions given in the Timer section of this book to return the timer to Manual operation.
Top oven and grill do not work, but Main oven works.Operating the cooker under the following conditions may cause a safety device to operate:
1. Grilling with the door closed - Always grill with the door fully open
2. Grilling for an excessively long period at maximum setting - see Grilling guide.
Switch off appliance and allow to cool for approx 30 mins. Switch the cooker back on and check that the Grill / Top oven is now operating.
Grill keeps turning on and offWhen the Grill control is operating at less than its maximum setting, the Grill will cycle on and off, this is normal and not a fault.
Timer buzzer/audible tone operates continuallyTo cancel the audible tone, press the minute minder button.
Oven temperatures too high or lowCheck temperature and shelf positions are as recommended in the Oven Temperature Charts. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the recommended temperature slightly to suit your taste.
Oven does not cook evenlyCheck:
1. Temperature and shelf positions are as recommended in the Oven Temperature Charts.
2. Oven utensils being used allow sufficient air flow around them.
Grilling is uneven.Ensure that Grill pan has been positioned as stated in the Grilling section of this book.
Oven lamp does not work.The oven lamp is not covered by the guarantee. The part is easily changed (see the section on oven lamp replacement) A new lamp may be obtained from our Genuine Parts & Accessories Hotline (see back page).
Condensation on the wall at the rear of the cooker.Steam and / or condensation may appear from the vent at the rear of the appliance when using an oven particularly for foods with a high water content e.g. frozen chips, roast chicken etc. This is normal, and any excess should be wiped off.
Steam / Condensation in the oven after use.Steam is a by - product of cooking any food with a high water contact. To help minimize always:
a) Try to avoid leaving food in the oven to cool after being cooked.
b) Use a covered container, wherever possible.

Nothing works.If you find Display is blank. Then it is likely that there is no electricity supply to your oven.
Check:
1.        That the main cooker wall switch is turned on.
2.        Check other appliances to see if you have a power cut.
3.        Check the main circuit breaker for the property.
Timer Display "0.00 AUTO"The power supply to your oven has possibly been interrupted, but has now come back on again. Reset the timer to the correct day and "Manual" operation using the instructions given in the timer section of the book.
Main & Top Ovens do not work, but the Grill works.Check the following to ensure that the timer is in Manual Mode: Check that the Auto Symbol is not lit up and is not flashing. See timer section for instructions on how to return timer to "Manual".
Top Ovens and Grill do not work, but the Main Oven works.Operating the cooker under the following conditions may cause a safety device to operate.
1. Grilling with the door closed - always grill with the door open to the correct position - see grilling
2. Grilling for an excessively long period at maximum setting - see grilling guide.
3. Grilling with inadequate ventilation in the cabinet - see installation instructions.
Grill keeps turning on and offWhen the "Grill" control (A) is operating at less than MAX, the grill will cycle on and off, this is normal and is not a fault.
Can not set an "Auto Cook" programmeRemember: "Cook Period" is the actual length of time for which, the timer will switch the oven(s) on as part of an "Auto Cooking" programme.
Draught from beneath control panel.A gentle flow of air will be blown from beneath the control panel when the appliance is used. If the appliance is still warm, this cooling fan may run on, or restart itself after all of the controls have been turned off. The fan will stop once the appliance has been cooled. This is normal and not a fault.
Timer buzzer/bleeper operates continuallyPress the minute minder button to silence the Buzzer/Bleeper.

ProblemPossible causes/Solution
The burner does not light or the flame is not even around the burner.• The gas holes on the burner are clogged.
• All the movable parts that make up the burner are mounted correctly.
• There are draughts near the appliance.
The flame dies in models with a safety device.• You pressed the knob all the way in.
• You keep the knob pressed in long enough to activate the safety device.
• The gas holes are not blocked in the area corresponding to the safety device.
The burner does not remain lit when set to minimum.• The gas holes are not blocked.
• There are no draughts near the appliance.
• The minimum setting has been adjusted properly.
The cookware is unstable.• The bottom of the cookware is perfectly flat.
• The cookware is positioned correctly at the centre of the burner.
• The pan support grids have been positioned correctly.

PROBLEMPOSSIBLE CAUSE AND REMEDY
OVEN WILL NOT OPERATE• Difficulty may be in the main distribution panel of your house by a blown oven circuit fuse, a tripped oven circuit breaker, the main fuse or the main circuit breaker, depending on nature of the power supply. If a circuit breaker is involved, reset it. If the control box uses fuses, the oven fuse (a cartridge-type) should be changed BUT ONLY BY SOMEONE FAMILIAR WITH ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS. If after doing one of these procedures, the fuse blows or circuit breaker trips again, call for service.
NOTE: Apartment tenants or condominium owners should request their building management to perform this check before calling for service.
•Oven controls not properly set.
OVEN DOES NOT COOK PROPERLY•Aluminum foil being used improperly in oven.
• Incorrect cookware being used. Check each cooking section for cookware tips.
•Electronic Controls or Lower Oven Control set incorrectly. Review sections on Electronic Oven Control.
•Check common baking, roasting and broiling problems on appropriate pages.
CLOCK AND MINUTE/SECOND TIMER DO NOT WORK•Check circuit breaker or fuse.
•Check for power outage.
OVEN LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON•Bulb may be loose or burned out.
•Electrical plug must be plugged into a live power outlet.
•Switch operating oven light is broken. Call for service.
SELF-CLEANING OVEN WILL NOT SELF-CLEAN PROPERL•Fan not operating.
•Oven temperature is too high to set self-clean operation. Allow the oven to cool to room temperature and reset the controls.
•Door not closed securely.
DELAY SELF-CLEAN CYCLE WILL NOT START• STOP TIME must be between 2 to 4 hours later than START TIME.
SELF-CLEANING OVEN DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK•Oven hasn’t cooled to a safe temperature.
CONTROL BEEPS AFTER ENTERING OVEN TIME OR STOP TIME•This is reminding you to enter a bake temperature (see Baking section of this book).
“F-” AND A NUMBER FLASH ON DISPLAY•If the time display flashes “F-” and a number, you have a function error code. Press CLEAR/OFF. If the failure code repeats, disconnect all power to the range. Call for service.
