Dishwasher leaking water

Dishwasher leaking water

Dishwasher may leak due to several reasons. Therefore, if you have noticed some water or a whole puddle under the dishwasher, you need to immediately deal with this problem.

What may cause leaks:

  1. The door is leaking. This can be caused by an unbalanced position of dishwasher itself, by a malfunction of the water level sensor, or by the clogging of the pipe leading to it. The door seal may be contaminated with grease which is why it may not close tightly. If the seal is damaged, it must be replaced.
  2. Dishwasher may leak at the bottom when the rubber pipe breaks or when the connections are loose.
  3. Water may leak from the air gap of the drain valve. In fact, this is not actually a “water leak”. The drain hose has a device which prevents water from flowing into the sewer. Water may flow out of the air vent holes if the drain hose is clogged or the hole is too small. But this can only happen when the water is being drained from the tub.
  4. The tub itself may have damages, but this doesn’t happen very often. However, a puddle under the dishwasher may be caused by this factor as well.

We recommend all users to look under their dishwashers every six months (or more often) during their operation and carefully inspect the floor and tubs for any signs of leakage. If the dishwasher is leaking, you will notice a rotted floor and will also smell mildew.
